History of Tahitian Pearls

This one of a kind pearl was first cultured in the French Polynesia during the early 1960 by a Frenchman named Jean Marie Dormand. It was in the lagoons of Hikeru and Bora Bora islands of the French Polynesia where the first culture experiments were made. The harvest summed up to over a thousand black pearls during its first harvest in 1965. Tahitian pearls were first exported during the 1970 and since then, over a hundred million dollars worth of Tahitian pearls have been shipped from the French islands.Tahitian pearls are not only used for necklaces. They could also be used as a pendant, earrings, bracelets, and other forms of jewelries.Tahitian pearls, also known to many as black pearls are probably one of the most sought after pearls in the world because of its rarity and exotic beauty. They are also regarded as black pearls because they have a predominantly dark color. Its colors ranges from gray, green, silver and other dark exotic colors in between.
